FISH

I’ve been spending far too much time in the Terminal window recently, and come across the very handy fun to use FISH

FISH

the friendly interactive shell

Just like Bash (used on Linux and older Mac’s) and the newer modern Z Shell (zsh) used on newer Mac’s, fish allows all the common commands to function but also helps by autocompleting the command you’re typing depending which directory you’re in, and its in colour.

As you start typing just press tab to autocomplete.

To install fish on Mac.

Type the following command in homebrew

brew install fish

Or there is an installer, or App if you’re not a homebrew user.

To install fish on Linux / Raspberry pi

Sudo apt-get install fish

For other distributions check the homepage.

Once you have fish installed, type ‘fish’ in your terminal window to start it, and exit to shut it down, a second ‘exit’ will close the terminal window.
