What’s new in iOS 14.6
Just as the recent big iOS/iPad/TVOS update 14.5 and 14.5.1 was released to the public. Apple released its 14.6 beta to developers and beta public testers, the release mostly patches up security issues and bug fixes. iOS 14.6 also adds support for the New Apple Music features, Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, and Lossless Audio announced on Monday.
So here's what is new in 14.6 with the RC (Release Candidate) build number 18F71.
Apple Card Family
Apple Card can now be shared with up to five people, this now includes anyone who is 13 years old or older and included within the iCloud Family Sharing. By combining the spending in one place allows a family to track its spending, set spending limits, and build a credit score together.
Podcasts
Following the refresh of the Podcasts App UI in 14.5, it now supports subscription service announced at the Spring Loaded event for podcast channels or individual shows.
AirTag and Find My
Within the lost mode option, the user can add an email address instead of their phone number. When an AirTag is scanned via an NFC-capable device the associated phone number is partially masked until the device is placed in lost mode.
Accessibility
Users who use Voice Control can able to unlock their iPhone using their voice after a restart.
This release also fixes the following issues:
- Unlock with Apple Watch may not work after using Lock iPhone on Apple Watch
- Reminders may appear as blank lines
- Call blocking extensions may not appear in Settings
- Bluetooth devices could sometimes disconnect or send audio to a different device during an active call
- iPhone may experience reduced performance during startup
